3WAY FAQs

  • Is there a tutorial on how to install 3WAYs?
    • Yes! You can see our install tutorial video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeHkZ9k-Xfg

  • How many 3WAYs are typically used in a house?
    • Houses vary in size and shape of course, but 100 is typical

  • How does 3WAY help me save time on my 3-way corners?
    • #1 - Minor gaps or blowouts can be covered with the reinforced backing of 3way. Save time on prefill.
    • #2 - Tapes can be run 5" short of the corner. No need to precisely overlap 3 tapes. Speeds up bazooka taping (pros)
    • #3 - Install 3Way 1 coat bevel. This is on average 4x faster than blocking out 3 tapes as sculpting and cutting into edges is unavoidable
    • #4 - Rough sand and picking out angle, the very inside should be already done, the most time consuming part of 3 tapes.
    • #5 - Roll and flush, no chance of hooking tapes or bunching the edges are buried.
    • #6 - Feather edges, no sculpting or going all the way into the corner.
    • #7 - Final sand and light check. Less surface mud....less sanding. Again the deepest part of the corner should not have build up or require shaping.

  • How do I get bulk pricing or become a distributor?
  • Will 3WAY save me time when I’m sanding?
    • Yes! You only need to focus on the edges of the 3WAY rather than the entire corner. Plus, the 3WAYs structural strength means you won’t need to pre-fill broken corners.

  • Do you sell larger quantities for tapers or for larger projects?
    • Yes! We sell 3WAY in 25 and soon, 100 pack options.

  • My corner angle isn’t perfect. Will I still be able to use 3WAY?
    • For 3 90° angles intersecting, the 3WAY is adjustable to one off angle, up to 120°. 3WAY was designed to install in corners that aren’t exactly 90°.

  • I’m a painter, is it easy to install a 3WAY?
    • Yes! 3WAY is so easy to use that it takes minimal skill to achieve stunning results. Apprentices and painters with limited taping skills can install 3WAYs in minutes.

  • If I am planning to run paper tape in the three two-sided corners, should I let it run under that three-way corner piece, or just up to it?
    • I find it easier to tape the angles first but not all the way into the corner. I like that more because if you're pulling out of your angle with a flusher it's not going to hook the tape. But I know a lot of people putting all their three ways and then tape up to the beveled Edge. It's up to you to try and see which works better for you.

  • Do I have to cover up the cardboard?
  • Should I put mudd behind the cardboard on the 3WAY as well? Also do I cover the front of the cardboard or just paint?
    • So if you are taping new drywall you don't need to run the tapes into the corner and overlap them. They can be about four or five inches short of the corner.
    • To install, follow these steps:
      • 1 - Lay down a thin layer of taping mud to adhere the three-way to the wall board.
      • 2 - Mud the flap of the 3 way (it goes behind)  3- one side is printed 'this side to drywall' press in and adjust as one angle will will be the 'worst'
      • 4 - press out excess mud, not all or it won't stick!
      • 5 - 'feather' the edges of the 3WAY, this means cover the bevealed edge (1/2") with about 2" of mud.
      • 6 - rough sand when dry if not smooth enough transition, second coat. The surface of the 3 way paper is paint ready (same as drywall paper) so most times it’s not necessary to mud all of the surface.

  • I have new drywall. So should I tape the ceiling first then the corner?
    • Tape your butt joints first, then flats (beveled joints of drywall) then angles.
    • For ceiling or wall angles, it doesn’t matter which is done first.
    • We suggest coating your beveled tapes first, so the board becomes flat. That will ensure your angles are flat.

  • Can the three-way be used on a finished wall or painted wall and ceiling?
  • How much time will I save installing 3WAY over traditional corners?
    • This depends on how quickly you tape corners, but typically you may save 10 or more minutes per corner.
    • These are laid out in the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeHkZ9k-Xfg

  • Which tool do you like best for mudding angles?
    • I prefer Dewalt Mudshot, because you set it and go. My partner prefers MudRunner cause he feels more control over mudflow. I think both are WAY better than corner box, you can see and fit into spaces easily. The power assist for mud flow is awesome.

  • I’m using the mud shot but I mix my mud like when I’m using the boxed but I have a lot problems - it doesn’t run well. Maybe I’m using really hard mud.
    • Make sure your tool is super clean, your angle filler is clean and well-adjusted. Does it have wheels? Without wheels does tend to hang-up more. Thin down your mud more if you like, not as thin as taping. Use a nopock for smooth running and machine oil on the hydronic and in your tube before you start. Just some troubleshooting stuff I've learned

  • I’m using Mudshot. Can you install the inside corners with the Mudshot?
    • The 3WAY goes in first, so do the tapes. The mudshot and angle head coat the angles with mud. The 3WAY doesn't need to be sculpted out with mud in the corner like traditional taping (3 tapes overlapping)
